ny hunting license course

Do I need a gun before taking hunter education courses, and a hunting license?
I like going with my friends to hunt in the fall or next fall, New York, require that the hunter Ed course, my question is that I own a gun before taking education courses for hunters and a hunter's license or just an option. Thank you.
You need to have a shotgun, but never "own" a … Many hunters use a gun again provided. You do not need "possessing" a weapon to take the safety course required of hunters before you can get your first license.
